Superintendent shares ICE interaction procedures and board discusses data-sharing with feeder districts

Superintendent Kurt told the board the district has developed administrative procedures to guide staff if Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents request to interact with students on school property. A copy of the procedures was included in the board packet and shared with feeder districts, Kurt said.
"A copy of those procedures have been included in your packet. Those procedures have also been shared with our feeder districts," Kurt said. He said the district is taking a proactive approach to address potential interactions between immigration agents and students while on school grounds.
Trustees discussed related information-sharing with feeder (center) districts about incoming students. Board members proposed pursuing either an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with feeder districts to enable secure transfer of student information or drafting a statewide resolution that other districts could adopt. Mary Howard volunteered to help with an initial committee to gather information and draft a recommendation.
Board members noted legal and privacy limits on what associate districts can share and said a local IGA could be faster while a statewide prototype might reduce future pushback. The board directed staff to place an item on the February Committee of the Whole agenda for further discussion about creating an IGA and potential broader advocacy.
