District business office reports NRG demand response contract, construction bids and winter-break meal distribution

Dan, the district director of business services, updated the Board of Education on energy, construction, nutrition and budget variables at the January meeting.

On energy, he said the district's energy consultant negotiated a demand-response contract with NRG and administration signed an agreement that returns 75% of revenue to the district; the board had previously approved a minimum revenue share of 65%. "We are well within those limits," Dan said.

On facilities, administration has continued meetings with architects DLA and Allied Facility Partners and held bid meetings Jan. 13 and Jan. 20 for projects that include third-floor bathroom renovations, a transition apartment and replacement of ceiling and lighting. Dan said 20 individuals attended the two pre-bid meetings and the district expects bids next week. He said transition apartment preparation will start over spring break and other projects will start in summer.

On student nutrition, Dan reported the district and Quest distributed 576 winter-break meal packs to students and families, equal to 4,608 meals (each pack contained four breakfasts and four lunches). He said administration is exploring grant and reimbursement options for continuing the program.

On budget variables, Dan noted the December 2024 consumer price index was 2.9 percent; he said the district considers the CPI in annual tax levy calculations. He also reported three donations this month totaling $453.53; none exceeded the $500 threshold that would require board approval.

Dan concluded by thanking the district's partners and noting staff will update the board as bids and grant options develop.
