Supervisor of Assessments outlines exemption mailings, appeals and offers briefings for county board members

Stephanie Kennedy, LaSalle County supervisor of assessments, briefed the committee on property-tax work in advance of the 2025 tax cycle. Kennedy said the assessor’s office is mailing exemption forms (veteran, disability, hospital/partial-exempt, senior homestead and senior tax-freeze forms) and expects senior forms to be with township assessors for mailing in February or March. She noted that taxpayers turning 65 in 2025 may be newly eligible and that forms are available on the county website or by mail.
Kennedy provided appeals and review statistics: the office has processed hundreds of border-review corrections and complaint appeals; it has scheduled board-review hearings, and identified more than 100 appeals that exceed $100,000 in requested assessment change, which will require separate hearings on March 3–4. She said the board had scheduled 55 hearings so far and that 633 proposed notices and approximately 575 dockets had been mailed.
Kennedy asked county board members — particularly the newer committee members — to make appointments to review how the property-tax cycle works and to prepare for higher public inquiries when tax bills are mailed. "Please do not wait until the tax bills go out. Please already know the answers and if you do not, please direct any questions to the assessment office," she told the committee. Kennedy also announced she plans to retire Aug. 8 of this year and offered to meet individually or in groups to explain assessment procedures and multipliers.
The committee voted to place the supervisor’s report on file.
