Senate committee introduces bill to create Oregon–Ireland sister‑state committee

Mr. Ranzick read LC 4029, dated Jan. 16, 2025: “LC 4029 … establishes the Oregon Ireland Sister State Committee. It specifies the appointment process and makeup of the committee, meeting frequency, and permissible activities.”
Vice Chair Kim Thatcher moved that LC 4029 be introduced as a committee bill. Senator Meek offered a friendly amendment to add the chair of the revenue committee to the committee’s membership. Chair Manning clarified that the present vote was to adopt the concept as a committee bill; a later committee or floor vote would decide the substance. After brief remarks, the chair called the roll; Senator Meek and Senator David Brock Smith were recorded as saying “Aye.”
The committee did not debate the measure’s specific powers or activities beyond the introductory read and the friendly amendment suggestion. The work session then moved on to scheduled public hearings for other bills.
The introduction establishes LC 4029 as a committee concept for further consideration and drafting. Any substantive changes, final membership rules, or meeting requirements would be resolved in subsequent committee work and associated amendments.
