City staff asked the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board to support an application for a recreational trails grant to finish the walking trail, upgrade furnishings, and complete related work at Garden Park.
Staff said the grant program funds trails and park outfitting; while the grant would be awarded later, staff must submit the application now. The grant application is due March 1 and, if awarded, funding would be available in January 2026. Staff said the project would complete the remaining portions of the trail and improve benches and other furnishings.
Separately, staff said the Natural Resources Board is coordinating a major native-planting effort at Garden Park — largely pollinator and butterfly-friendly plants — and that planting is tentatively scheduled for the week of March 10. Staff said the garden club and local volunteers have an interest in the site and that one Eagle Scout pollinator garden on the property needs additional plantings and revitalization.
Staff said they will coordinate with neighbors about work near private property and remain mindful of homeowner concerns about work encroaching into backyard areas.
