City staff told the commission the application had been advertised in the newspaper but a required sign had not been posted on the subject property and letters to adjacent property owners had not been mailed in time. Planning staff recommended postponement to allow full notice and to meet the city’s public‑notice standards.
The postponement motion set the new hearing for the commission’s Feb. 10 meeting.
Commissioners asked whether the sign and letters are the responsibility of the city or the applicant. Staff said the applicant puts the sign on the property and the city issues the letters; in this case staff missed the mailing deadline.
A roll call vote recorded six yes votes, zero nos and one absence; the motion passed. The commission did not take further action on the application at the Jan. 27 meeting.
Next steps: the item will be renoticed and placed on the Feb. 10 Planning Commission agenda for consideration.
