Board authorizes settlements in two lawsuits and approves opposition filing in water validation action

In closed session the board approved settlements in Marcus Fields and Jacob Severn lawsuits and authorized filing opposition in a California Department of Water Resources validation action; terms of the settlements will be released after signature.
The San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors reported three pieces of reportable action following closed session: approval to settle two pending lawsuits and authorization to file an opposition in a separate validation action related to water operations.
County counsel reported the board, by unanimous votes, approved settlements in Marcus Fields v. San Joaquin County and Jacob Severn v. San Joaquin County. For both cases the board authorized settlement; county counsel said the terms and conditions will be made available once all parties have signed settlement agreements.
The board also authorized the county to file an opposition in a validation action entitled CDWR v. All Persons Interested (a matter involving the Department of Water Resources). County counsel told the board the motion to authorize filing the opposition was approved 5-0.
The board recorded the actions and closed the meeting for its special session. County counsel indicated the settlement terms will become available when the agreements are finalized and executed.
