Board renews legislative partnership and Community Alliance memberships after debate over value and board engagement

The program provides regular legislative updates and periodic coordination with a small group of local partners and lobbyists; the district receives weekly briefings and staff said the partnership is low-cost relative to other options. Several trustees said they had not consistently used the service in the past and urged more active use; the board approved the subscription unanimously.
Community Alliance: the board separately considered membership in the Community Alliance, a multi-party economic and civic partnership that lists the Chamber, the City, the Convention & Visitors Bureau, the County, Mosaic, Missouri Western, the school district and United Way among its members. The proposed contribution was $20,000 (some partners pay $10,000). Trustees debated whether the district was receiving tangible returns for the investment and whether board representation and clearer expectations of the alliance—s work were needed. One trustee voted no; the motion passed 5-1.
Board members discussed using membership to "control the narrative" about the school district, pressing the alliance to offer more concrete, actionable support and for board members to attend alliance meetings. Superintendent Edgar said she would serve as liaison through June and agreed to provide meeting minutes and regular reports. The board asked staff to ensure trustees receive meeting notices and minutes so they can participate when appropriate.
