City Manager Mike told the City Commission he has submitted his resignation and requested that staff and the city attorney prepare options for an interim city manager and market information for a permanent replacement.
"I've submitted my resignation and this is the first meeting since I submitted that resignation," Mike said, introducing the agenda item and asking whether the commission wished to discuss an interim appointment or direct staff to gather market data and draft contract language.
Commissioners praised Mike's decade of service and directed staff to begin preparatory work. The mayor and multiple commissioners said they wanted staff to gather salary-market baselines, update the job description if needed and draft a broad-strokes interim contract for the next meeting so the commission could decide whether to appoint an interim manager.
Commissioner Clark stated a preference to hold hiring decisions that would normally be made by a city manager until a successor is selected, saying the next permanent manager should be given the opportunity to fill certain billets. Other commissioners said they wanted a draft interim contract and market data returned promptly because the city has several active complex projects requiring continuity.
No formal interim appointment or employment contract was approved at the meeting; commissioners gave direction to staff and asked that materials be returned at the next commission meeting for further action.
