Parks’ Team Tate playground draws broad support; committee asks about ADA parking

Portland Parks’ Team Tate inclusive playground and fitness project drew support from committee members, who noted strong neighborhood letters and previous rounds of prioritization, and voted to ask staff whether any designated ADA parking is planned.

Rowan told the committee the parks department has significant experience managing construction awards and that city projects typically do not include UEIs or tax ID fields in their submissions. Todd Morris and others said the proposal showed strong community support; several members said the playground would address a neighborhood gap as the only play facility of its type in the city.

Teal Kenneth Smith asked whether accessible parking is included; he also observed that some erosion control plantings could create maintenance or safety challenges if shrubbery is not managed. Parks plans were discussed in conjunction with nearby ADA sidewalk improvements, and several members said they were considering those linked impacts when scoring.

Motion and vote: The committee unanimously approved a request that staff ask the parks department whether ADA‑designated parking is planned or feasible near the Team Tate playground. Staff will post responses in Neighborly and the committee will use the information when finalizing scores.
