Aurora council assigns 2025 outside‑agency representatives; several council members accept recurring posts

Council members on Jan. 27 reviewed and accepted assignments to numerous outside agencies and regional boards for 2025, with several council members volunteering to continue or assume roles in recurring intergovernmental groups.
Council member Bergen said she would continue attending Accelerate Colorado subcommittee meetings; Council member Hancock expressed interest in more involvement with Accelerate and the mayor and staff discussed designating a primary representative and an alternate if agency bylaws permit two representatives. Mayor Kaufmann and staff noted some agencies limit Aurora to a single elected representative and that alternates can attend if the primary is unavailable.
Other appointments discussed included the Adams County Airport Coordinating Committee (two elected representatives required), Adams County Regional Economic Partnership (alternating city representation year to year), Arapahoe County regional committees, the Fitzsimmons redevelopment authority (council member Gardiner and others were named as participants), REAP (E‑470 Public Highway Authority and regional transportation groups), Centennial Airport Community Noise Roundtable (staff backup), Sand Creek Regional Greenway, Spirit of Aurora, Urban Drainage and Flood Control District Board and Visit Aurora.
Several council members volunteered for or confirmed continuing roles: Council member Gardiner volunteered for Adams County Regional Economic Partnership; Council member Gardner agreed to continue with the Aurora Economic Development Council; council members agreed to check bylaws and staff will follow up to confirm whether some seats require mayoral appointment, if seats are limited, or if alternates are permitted. For one item, Aurora Housing Authority appointments remain on hold because the city’s ordinance change is the subject of a temporary injunction and the matter is in court.
Staff and council asked city staff to confirm details such as whether travel and registration for Accelerate Colorado events are included in the city's representation (a follow‑up item) and to verify board bylaws where the city’s authority to appoint had changed.
