Commission moves forward with voter-registration site analysis on old health department parcel
Summary

The board agreed to move forward with further work on a voter-registration building sited at the county’s existing health-department parcel. County project staff presented a site analysis and said borings returned favorable results, showing a water table about six feet down and soils suitable for the planned building footprint.
Project staff said utilities are available, the county already owns the property, and borings indicate the proposed building footprint is not in a flood zone though adjacent parking may be in the 100-year floodplain. Staff noted designers will need to address egress and circulation so that ingress and exit flow safely.
Commission members asked whether the canal adjacent to the site had caused flooding concerns; staff said the structure location itself is outside the floodplain and borings indicated acceptable subsurface conditions. Commissioners moved and seconded a motion to proceed with the site and to continue design work.
Ending: Staff will advance schematic work and coordinate with the county engineer on egress and flood-mitigation measures as the design process continues.
