Board appoints two members to Liberty Gateway Design Review Board

The Liberty County Board of Commissioners voted to reappoint Lynn Dryden as the county’s at-large representative to the Liberty Gateway Design Review Board and to appoint Emmanuel Joyner to fill the Gullah Geechee community seat.
The Gateway Design Review Board reviews development and redevelopment proposals in the county’s gateway overlay along key corridors including U.S. 84 and U.S. 17; its role is to review aesthetics and design standards for properties that face those highways. The overlay also covers parts of Midway and Riceboro; Midway and Riceboro each appoint representatives as well.
County planning staff told commissioners that the UDO, updated in 2023, added two seats: one for a Gullah Geechee community member and one for a historic preservation professional. Planning staff presented Mr. Joyner as a Rushboro resident and a member of the Gullah Geechee community who had expressed interest in serving.
Commissioner Stevens moved to accept the appointments; the board voted by show of hands to approve both names.
Ending: The appointments fill two of the four slots the county may name to the seven-member board; commissioners discussed the option of naming a historic preservation professional and a design professional at a later date.
