The Stillwater Economic Development Authority on Jan. 27 approved a small business enhancement application for up to $15,000 to support façade and accessibility improvements at 918 and 920 South Main Street.
City staff said the TIF District 3 program provides up to $15,000 of matching assistance, not to exceed 50 percent of eligible exterior improvement expenditures. The applicant reported a total project cost of $49,652 and requested the $15,000 maximum to pay for new signage, a full-width canopy, a new ADA entry, exterior lighting and a new EIFS (exterior insulation and finish system) façade.
The TIF committee had unanimously recommended approval. An applicant identified in the record as Steve told trustees he and his sister inherited the building last May, discovered additional concealed deterioration once exterior materials were removed, and requested the city assistance to restore the storefront and remove the remaining mansard-style canopy.
Trustees approved the application by unanimous vote and encouraged property owners to pursue improvements that will help revitalize the Main Street corridor.
