Human Resources staff explained the ordinance language and noted a clerical date detail in the staff table: the recommended effective pay period includes Jan. 1, 2025, and for payroll ease HR recommended setting the effective pay period start on Dec. 22, 2024. A supervisor stated they had voted against the measure in a prior meeting and again voiced fiscal restraint but did not block introduction.
Supervisor Brown made the motion to amend county code section 2.68.20.020 to implement the 4% increase effective with the pay period that includes Jan. 1, 2025 (December 22, 2024 payroll start); the motion was seconded and the board voted to waive reading and schedule adoption for Feb. 11. The recorded outcome in the meeting was the motion carried with one supervisor opposed noted later when adoption occurs.
Next steps: the ordinance will be on the Feb. 11 consent calendar for final adoption per the board’s ordinance process.
