County reports CDBG‑funded mobile food truck served thousands; $15,386 remains at closeout

Amador County staff presented a required public hearing report on Jan. 28 about a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) that funded a mobile food truck operated by the Interfaith Food Bank. The board opened and closed the hearing and accepted the report for the administrative closeout; no board resolution was required.

Heather (staff) summarized the grant closeout: the grant purchased and outfitted the truck, covered staffing and volunteer costs, and funded food purchases and administration. The reported figures were: 3,340 households served, 6,336 unique individuals, and 159,529 total person visits when returns were counted. At the end of the grant performance period (Oct. 31, 2024) the grant had an unspent balance of $15,386. Staff confirmed roughly $106,795.74 had been spent on food purchases.

The grant’s original award amount was stated in the presentation as approximately $588,052; staff said the remaining balance reflects the full range of eligible expenses already paid, including the truck, outfitting, staffing and food. The closeout public hearing is a required procedural step for the grant’s administrative closure; staff said no further board action (such as a resolution) was necessary.

Supervisor questions noted the size of the program relative to county population; staff pointed to income‑category breakdowns in the report showing about 10% of individuals served were in the 0–30% area median income category and the remainder in low‑income categories.

Next steps: staff will complete closeout paperwork as required by the CDBG rules.
