BARGERSVILLE, Ind. — Parks Department staff presented a year‑in‑review to the council on Jan. 28 and asked the town to consider funding a trails and greenways master plan from available Park Geobond funds.
The parks presentation noted the community center exceeded expectations with 87 external rentals totaling 185 days of use; shelter rentals also remained busy with 148 rentals. Staff listed completion or near completion of several capital projects and ongoing maintenance work, including a dumpster enclosure, shade at Kephart splash pad, and continuing work on Umburger Plaza.
Parks staff said they are soliciting proposals from four or five firms for a trails and greenways master plan; the initial cost range provided to the council was $50,000 to $75,000. Staff told councilors there is not currently a formal funding line for the plan but that the town has "a significant excess in the Park Geobond" that could be used.
Councilors asked how the master plan would be coordinated with other planning efforts and how the plan might become part of the comprehensive plan or park fee discussions. Parks staff replied the selected consultant would lead public meetings, then present to the parks board before coming to council, and the plan could be attached as an addendum to the town's comp plan.
Staff said construction work on the community plaza is underway and that final punchlist and final walkthroughs for other projects were anticipated in the coming weeks.
