Cleveland EDC adopts first-Tuesday monthly meeting schedule at 6 p.m.

The Cleveland Economic Development Corporation voted to hold its regular board meetings on the first Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m., a schedule the board said will place EDC items about two weeks before City Council meetings. The motion to adopt the change was made by Mr. Buckley and seconded by Chuck Thompson; the board carried the motion unanimously.

Board members said the move is intended to give the City Council enough time to include EDC items on its agenda. City Councilman Brent McWaters, who was present in the discussion, noted the EDC’s work is being forwarded to council more quickly: “What he's doing is just trying to get us the the city council meetings at 3rd Tuesday of every month. What he's trying to do is get us before it but we have to have enough time before that for them to put out an agenda.”

Discussion at the meeting included preferences for meeting days: several members said Tuesdays work better than Mondays. The board considered keeping the February meeting on Feb. 24 and switching to the new schedule in March; the calendar example cited at the meeting showed the March meeting would fall on March 4 under the new plan. As an example during discussion, a speaker said, “February 18th is the next city council meeting,” and the board used that timeline to argue for meeting two weeks earlier.

The formal motion was: “I make the motion that we adopt the 1st Tuesday of every month at 6 PM for our new meeting time.” The motion was moved by Mr. Buckley and seconded by Chuck Thompson. After a brief call for other discussion, the chair asked, “All in favor?” and the meeting record states, “Motion carries unanimously.”

With the vote, the board adopted the new recurring meeting date and time. No additional tasks or follow-up motions tied to the schedule change were recorded in the transcript.
