Commissioner says courthouse roof is finished; interior work and ADA parking upgrades planned

During the Jan. 27 meeting, a commissioner provided an update on courthouse repairs and parking improvements. The roof replacement is complete and recent rains did not cause leaks, the commissioner said, and engineers are assessing wind-related concerns.
“The roof is finished…and we had, like, three or four big rains, and it was not a leak,” the commissioner reported. “Not a drop. It's not a drop. Thank goodness.” The commissioner said engineers found parts of the building in poor condition once interior finishes were removed and that work will continue on the interior with plans to be back in the building by about March 10.
The county also reconfigured a two-level parking area, removing a dividing wall to create more space, and gained about 110 parking spaces; the commissioner said those changes were funded with CARES Act money. The commissioner noted the parking work addressed ADA access and said the county did not use local taxes for the project funds, though they acknowledged indirect long-term costs.
The report closed with appreciation to county staff for accommodation and asked commissioners and the public for continued patience as interior repairs proceed.
