The commission approved acceptance of a $50,000 Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Transportation Assistance award and moved to appropriate the funds into the fiscal‑year 2025 budget.
A staff presenter prefaced the item by noting timing concerns: "we realize this is very, very poor timing, in regards to the federal, funding freeze that has just been announced. But this has been on the agenda now for, a week or so. So this was before that all happened." The presenter explained the grant covers the period Oct. 2023 through Sept. 2024 and that the county received the award for a one‑year renewal; staff requested formal acceptance and appropriation into FY25 because the award arrived after the initial budget request.
The motion to put the grant acceptance on the floor was made by Member Daley and seconded by Member Bryant. Voting followed and the motion carried. Staff did not provide further line‑item appropriation detail in the meeting; the presenter said the funds were not included in the initial FY25 budget because of timing with the federal fiscal year.
The resolution to accept and appropriate the grant was approved during the resolutions portion of the meeting; no members recorded votes against the measure in the transcript.
