Mayville engineering plan proposes $900,000 road program; council to bid base package and alternates

The base bid package — Easy Street, North High Street, Iron Lane, River Drive and Tower Drive — carries an estimated total of $854,000. Three alternate bid streets (Ray Lane, Riverview Heights and Springbrook Court) were identified and could be added if final bids leave available funds.
The presentation described a $150,000 allowance for unknown “soft spots” under the pavement. Staff asked the committee to approve issuing bids as soon as possible to secure better contractor pricing and to coordinate schedules with asphalt suppliers so work is not delayed into late season.
Officials said coordination with water and wastewater utility projects is underway; Green Bush was omitted from the list because of an anticipated water-main replacement. The administrator emphasized that timing and coordination with the utility department were important to avoid rework.
Committee members asked about project scheduling and contractor coordination; staff said bidding documents will include timing expectations and noted the city wants to avoid fall scheduling bottlenecks that can delay asphalt work.
No formal committee action was taken; staff were instructed to proceed with bid preparation and to continue coordination with utilities and the engineer.
