Assemblymember Levenberg connected the resolution to a separate floor recognition of Holocaust Remembrance Day and noted the Dominican Republic’s historical acceptance of Jewish refugees in the 1930s, referencing the Sosúa resettlement program.
The resolution was adopted by voice vote. Sponsors framed the measure as a recognition of cultural heritage and community contributions and said the proclamation would reinforce ties between the state and Dominican-American residents.
