Board approves baseball team spring-break trip to Florida in 2026

A request to send the Cannon Falls high school baseball team to Florida during spring break 2026 was approved by the Cannon Falls School Board after the coach outlined plans and fundraising history.

The coach, speaking to the board, said the trip is intended "to keep the baseball squad together during spring break" and noted the 2024 trip cost about $30,000 total. The coach said that if the team takes 20 players, the trip equated to about $1,500 per player in 2024, with families ultimately paying between $400 and $800 per player after fundraising. The coach said the parent group would again lead fundraising efforts and that the likely location is the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Florida.

Board members asked whether support mechanisms exist for families that cannot cover costs. The coach said volunteers and non-parent donors historically helped to cover some students' expenses and said similar arrangements could be made for 2026.

The coach noted the Minnesota State High School League requires board authorization for out-of-state trips by school teams, and the coach said the request was coming to the board to comply with that requirement. The board approved the trip by voice vote.

Details the coach provided include an expected 3–4 coaches attending, fundraising plans starting well in advance (the coach said there would be 14 months to fundraise), and a target to avoid missing school because the trip would occur during spring break. The coach requested permission so the team could proceed with planning and fundraising.
