Board elects Melanie Colgan president, Saundra Wyman vice president; approves committee roster and moves to closed session

The Los Alamos Public Schools Board of Education elected Melanie Colgan as board president and Saundra Wyman as vice president during its Jan. 14 meeting and approved routine consent business and the committee roster.
Board members carried several voice votes during the meeting. A motion to approve the agenda for Jan. 14 was made by Member Adams and approved by voice vote. The consent agenda was moved by Member Lauren Copeland and approved by voice vote.
Nomination and election: Board members nominated Melanie Colgan for president; no alternate nomination was offered and the board approved Colgan by voice vote. For vice president, the board conducted nominations and individual voice voting; Saundra Wyman received the necessary votes and was named vice president. Members also nominated Lauren Copeland for the secretary position and approved that nomination.
Committee assignments: The board reviewed a list of standing committees (including the LA PS Foundation Committee, Budget/Finance & Audit, JHAB, county‑district coordination with UNM LA, Student Liaison reviews, Equity Council, Facilities Master Plan working group, Policy Review Committee and others) and agreed to keep most assignments as listed in the meeting packet. A motion to approve the committee roster as discussed was moved by Saundra Wyman and passed by voice vote.
Executive session: Later in the meeting, Member Adams moved that the board convene in closed executive session
