District approves $2.26 million summer projects and $2.86 million mechanical contract for Edgebrook and other sites

Facilities director Mr. Schubert reviewed the Nicholas and Associates scope, which covers Riverwood and Duker parking‑lot expansions intended to improve parent drop‑off and bus circulation, a new kindergarten bathroom and classroom reconfiguration at Hilltop (including relocating a kiln), flooring replacement and asbestos abatement at Valley View (abatement contracted separately to True North), and mechanical retrofits at Edgebrook to address humidity and moisture concerns. Schubert said bids for trades were solicited and that some zoning and conditional‑use approvals remain with the city before work can begin.
Board members discussed the Riverwood/Duker design and public feedback; Schubert said the Duker expansion drew the most local pushback and that the district has negotiated buffers (trees/arborvitae) and easement considerations with adjacent property owners. The district also said it had toured the Duker site with police and received a letter of support from law enforcement on traffic‑safety improvements.
Separately the board approved a cooperative purchase with Midwest Mechanical for repairs and partial roof replacement at Edgebrook, plus replacement of an air‑handler unit serving pre‑K and library/media spaces. Schubert described that bid as a coop price that "is an all in price" intended to avoid change‑orders.
Both contracts were approved by roll call. Construction timelines are subject to contractor scheduling, permit approvals and receipt of bid packages; the district noted asbestos abatement and conditional‑use approvals remain prerequisites for certain site work.
