District recommends Mimecast email security contract and confirms it was not affected by PowerSchool breach

Staff said the district’s current Barracuda contract cost about $126,682 in the prior year and that Mimecast’s price would reduce near-term contract cost and consolidate separate services (encryption, phishing protection) that the district currently manages under multiple contracts. Administration said the district evaluated multiple vendors and recommends Mimecast; board members asked staff to provide examples of other districts using Mimecast and to document the procurement due diligence.
During discussion the committee asked whether District 300 was affected by a recent PowerSchool vendor data breach. Staff answered that District 300 was not breached and that the district sent communication to families the prior Friday to explain the result of the district’s investigation. “We were not one of the districts that had a breach,” staff said.
