Summary
After review by teacher panels and the curriculum committee, the board voted to adopt McGraw Hill's 'Voices & Perspectives' for grades 6–8 on a six‑year contract beginning 2025–26.
The Board of Education voted Jan. 21 to adopt McGraw Hill's Voices & Perspectives as the district's grades 6–8 social studies resource on a six‑year contract running from the 2025–26 through the 2030–31 school year.
Dr. Kudjinski (curriculum committee presenter) told the board that the district conducted a formal adoption process beginning in September, during which teacher review teams evaluated three vendors (McGraw Hill, Savvas and Discovery) using a rubric. "McGraw Hill's Voices & Perspectives had the highest overall score with an average of 77.56 out of 100," Kudjinski said, noting alignment with Illinois learning standards and mandated units of study.
The curriculum committee provided an overview earlier in the meeting and several board members who reviewed the materials described them as robust and teacher‑friendly. The board moved and seconded the recommendation; a roll call vote was recorded in favor and the motion carried.
The curriculum presenter said McGraw Hill offers equity and culturally relevant resources and additional teacher supports intended to serve the district’s student population. The board did not disclose contract financials during the presentation; packet materials included the executive summary and rubric results.
Implementation will begin in 2025–26, subject to publisher delivery and district adoption timelines.
