High school enrollment dips after midterm graduates; district reviews option enrollment timing

"We had 29 students graduate at midterm. 6 of the newcomers went back to Papillion, and we got 33 back," Hartley said, summarizing shifts that produced a net change of about 32 students compared with two weeks earlier.
Why it matters: enrollment fluctuations affect staffing, class size projections and capacity planning. Hartley said those seasonal enrollment shifts are common at this time of year and noted the district partners with Papillion-La Vista for newcomer EL instruction, which contributes to movement between districts.
Hartley also briefed the board on option-enrollment timelines: staff will begin reviewing option-enrollment requests in March and stop accepting them at the end of July. She noted middle-school capacity was tight at the 6th-grade level and that some schools (Mockingbird) remain closed for enrollment.
Board members asked whether midterm graduates will participate in May commencement; Hartley said graduates have the option to walk in May but the district did not yet know each student's decision.
Next steps: enrollment projections will inform staffing and school assignment work ahead of spring and summer, and staff will return updates as option-enrollment decisions are processed.
