Town unveils promotional recruitment videos for police and fire; departments say openings remain

Mark Smith, a local videographer contracted by the town, showed promotional recruitment videos for Taos Police Department and Taos Fire Department at the council meeting on Nov. 12.
Smith said the project required time and patience from first responders and town staff and praised the departments’ participation. "It was a pleasure working with everyone," he told the council.
The police recruitment spot promotes the department’s physical and background requirements and highlights benefits including town‑provided health coverage, PERA retirement and holiday pay. The fire department video outlines physical testing standards (mile‑and‑a‑half run, combat challenge, written exam and interview) and the 48‑on/96‑off schedule for firefighter shifts.
Assistant manager Flores reported staffing needs: the fire department has three openings and the police department has five. Council members said they hoped the new videos would help reduce vacancies.
