Bedford County supervisors approve new banking contract, forensic grant and animal-shelter addition; name transportation representative

The Bedford County Board of Supervisors approved a package of financial, public-safety and capital-project measures at its meeting, including a one-year banking-services contract, acceptance of a forensic-equipment grant for the sheriff's office, authorization to advertise bids and award a construction contract for an animal-shelter addition, and a board appointment to the regional transportation body.

Doug Kaufman, presenting an item on behalf of facilities staff, asked the board to authorize advertising for bids and to award, if within budget, a contract to build a 2,940-square-foot addition to the Bedford County Animal Shelter. Kaufman said the addition—primarily dog kennels with a spay/neuter clinic—would roughly double the facility’s dog capacity and reorient the public entrance.
