The Western Foothills Regional School Unit 10 school board voted to pay $250 per meeting to whoever runs live meeting coverage for board meetings, approved a job description for an indoor-track head coach and took a first reading on a revised remote-participation (BED) policy.
The stipend motion, presented as “Act to approve a payment of $250 per meeting for live school board meeting coverage,” was made by Janet Brennick and seconded by Chad Cullerton. Board members debated whether the stipend should be retroactive to the start of the fiscal year. An amendment to make the stipend retroactive to August 2024 failed by a recorded voice vote (4 in favor, 8 opposed). The board then returned to the original motion (payment going forward) and approved it; the transcript records the motion as carried but does not provide a final hand-count for that final vote.
Board members said the payment will come from the school-board account and that administration and personnel committees are training additional people who could run coverage. During the discussion the board reported a balance of $6,382 in the school-board account and debated whether that account could absorb retroactive payments for prior meetings.
Separately, the board approved a job description for an indoor-track head coach. The motion to “Act to approve the job description for indoor track head coach position” was made by Janet Brennick and seconded by Allison; the motion carried without recorded opposition.
On policy, the board took a first reading of a revised BED remote-participation policy. The first reading passed on a 6–5 vote in favor; other motions proposing postponement or further clarification of the board’s policy-adoption procedure were debated in committee and at the full board meeting. Board members asked the policy committee to revisit the policy adoption procedure (BGR) to remove contradictory wording before subsequent readings.
Votes at a glance: - Stipend for live meeting coverage (motion: $250 per meeting, going forward): motion carried (final tally not specified in transcript); amendment to make stipend retroactive to Aug. 5 failed 4–8 (outcome: amendment failed; original motion carried). - Indoor track head coach job description: approved (motion carried; tally not specified). - BED (remote participation) policy: first reading approved, 6 in favor, 5 opposed (motion for first reading carried).
No salaries beyond the per-meeting payment were changed at the meeting; board members said the stipend would be paid to the person(s) actually running the live coverage and that future trainees would receive the stipend once they take over coverage. The board directed the policy committee to clear up internal inconsistencies in the policy-adoption procedure before further action on BED.
