Roselle swears in Tim Smelter as fire chief and Matt Coppock as deputy chief; department welcomes new paramedics

The Village of Roselle conducted oath ceremonies on Jan. 27 for its new Fire Chief, Tim Smelter, and new Deputy Fire Chief, Matt Coppock.
Mayor Pawlowski presided over the swearing-in and led the oath. The mayor noted one notable fact about Chief Smelter: "One thing that's unique about our new chief is he actually lives in our service area." The mayor said that residency should help with rapid response and community familiarity.
The mayor and other officials recognized outgoing Chief Ozick for his career and thanked the fire department for organizing the earlier ceremonial event attended by families and allied agencies.
Deputy Chief Matt Coppock was sworn in in a similar ceremony immediately following the chief’s oath. After their oaths, both leaders acknowledged the department’s recent personnel additions; during the evening the village also welcomed new full-time paramedics and new battalion chiefs to the fire department.
The board recessed ceremonial remarks and then proceeded with the remainder of the meeting.
