Hilliard economic development official outlines business-retention outreach and supports

Alex Grimershine, Economic Development Specialist for the City of Hilliard, described his office’s business-retention outreach and support for companies located outside downtown Hilliard.

Grimershine said his role is to connect a range of businesses — “No matter if we're working with a small mom and pop business or the 300 employee larger manufacturer here in Hilliard, we make sure that we provide the same quality of resources and assistance that we can to everyone that's located in Hilliard.” He said he began working for the city in 2017 and has rotated through three departments.

The program focuses on in-person business-retention visits and tailored help. Grimershine listed specific services the city offers or helps coordinate: guiding businesses through the city’s planning and zoning sign process; connecting employers with the local school district on internships and apprenticeship programs; arranging networking events for owners and employees; and identifying grant opportunities, including through the Hilliard Development Corporation (HDC). He said these supports apply across business sizes and sectors and include manufacturers, small retailers and other local firms.

Grimershine urged local business owners and prospective owners to contact the economic development office and said, “Hilliard business owners or those looking to open a business in Hilliard can reach out to me via email, phone, or our Hilliard economic development LinkedIn.” He also said, “I love this job an awful lot,” describing the work as varied and focused on solving day-to-day challenges for business owners.

The remarks were delivered as an informational update about the city’s outreach and services rather than as a proposal requiring formal action.
