Hilliard council approves $232,000 contract to add four pickleball courts at municipal park

Hilliard City Council on Jan. 27 unanimously approved Resolution 25R05, authorizing the city manager to enter a contract with Park Enterprise Construction Company for construction of four pickleball courts at Roger A. Reynolds Municipal Park.
Staff said the project budgeted a little over $232,000, which includes the lowest responsive base bid of roughly $175,000 from Park Enterprise, an alternate to add lights priced at about $45,000, and a 5% contingency. Construction is planned to begin in March as weather allows, with the city aiming to complete the courts before July 4. The new courts will be located just west of the existing pickleball courts.
Council member Cynthia Vermillion asked whether the lights would serve all four courts; staff confirmed the lighting alternate would cover all courts and would replace the existing lights that serve the two older courts. Staff also noted a player suggestion to place benches on connected concrete pads and said the city would incorporate that detail.
The roll-call vote was recorded as five yes, zero no. Resolution 25R05 passed and is effective at the earliest date allowable by law.
