Staff said Humboldt Transit Authority is the lead agency on the NSX partnership and that RCTA’s existing Route 20 service already provides the local lifeline between Del Norte County and Humboldt. Several providers are coordinating timed transfers at regional hubs to create through connections into Mendocino County and Santa Rosa. RCTA staff said about two daily trips currently allow riders from Del Norte County to reach points south, with potential for a third trip in summer service if additional funding is secured.
Staff also noted operational groundwork already completed: agencies outfitted buses with contactless fare readers in prior joint projects, enabling future fare-capping and e‑ticketing as partners develop a shared booking experience. RCTA staff said a consultant working with Humboldt Transit is preparing system maps and marketing materials; staff said an e‑ticketing web page and fare-capping remain desired enhancements but are not yet in place.
The board had no substantive questions; staff said Caltrans and CalSTA have been supportive in seeking additional funding and that RCTA will continue running its segment of the corridor while the multi‑agency NSX service develops.
