The Clinton City School Board on Jan. 13 approved a set of updated board policies, including new requirements tied to state law for background investigations and a procedural change to Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) administration.
The revisions were largely TSBA (Tennessee School Boards Association) recommendations reflecting changes in state law. The background investigation policy now enrolls staff fingerprint records in the state’s ongoing monitoring program (referred to in the meeting as "RightBack"), which removes the need for periodic five‑year fingerprint renewals once enrolled and notifies the district if the state system receives a relevant arrest or charge report.
The FMLA policy was changed from a calendar‑year measurement period to a rolling 12‑month period on consultant advice to align with best practice. Other policy updates were clerical: replacing contact names for positions that have changed since prior policy drafts and updating language on promotion and retention to clarify parent requests for retention in grades one and two when data justify the request.
Board Chair called for a motion to adopt the revisions on first and second reading; the board approved the changes by voice vote.
