Allison, the city administrator, said Rossford has contracted with the sheriff's office for dispatching for more than a decade and that calls to dispatch have increased. "He is asking that we add a second dispatcher, and that would be a double the cost. So it would be around $200,000 a year rather than, 100," Allison said, explaining why the sheriff's office requested the change. Allison said the sheriff had approached the city because call volumes are rising throughout the county.
A council member suggested letting the ordinance go another reading to better understand the city's obligations and how the increased cost would be shared by other users of the service; the council did not vote to adopt the ordinance at this meeting. The item remains at the first-reading stage.
Council did not specify the ordinance's detailed cost-sharing formula, contract term, or the effective date; staff said those details would be provided before further readings.
