Enterprise prepares crews, warming center and adjusted services ahead of winter storm

City Manager Jonathan Tullos updated the Enterprise City Council Jan. 21 on preparations for an incoming winter storm and said city crews and partner agencies are taking precautionary steps.
Tullos said the city has been in regular contact with Coffee County Emergency Management and has already sanded bridges and low-lying areas. He said some neighboring jurisdictions had closed roads earlier and that precipitation arrived sooner than forecast. "Our concern continues to be that that snow melts once it happens on you know, gets on the ground and then turns to ice," City Manager Jonathan Tullos said.
Public works and parks crews were pulled to standby with city vehicles equipped for four-wheel drive, and the city planned to run additional trash routes Saturday to catch up after lost work time. Alan Mahan and public-works staff were identified as leading preparations for water and wastewater services; Tullos said crews were on standby for possible burst pipes and other cold-weather problems.
On emergency sheltering, the city secured keys for First Methodist Church as an overflow warming center to be supported by the Community Emergency Response Team and Coffee County EMA if Christian Mission fills. Tullos said Christian Mission had been serving greatly increased meal volumes and the city was ready to open the overflow location if necessary; notices would be posted on city and EMA social media pages.
Alabama Power also staged two additional repair crews in Enterprise, and the city said it would make another weather decision about services closer to the next workday if conditions require. Council members urged residents to take precautions for pipes, pets and people and to monitor official city channels for updates.
