Mike Watkins, the newly elected Lancaster County Clerk of Court, said he was sworn in on Jan. 2 and pledged to continue the work of his predecessor.
On Lancaster County's county-produced podcast, Brenda Thompson, Lancaster County communications and marketing director, introduced highlights from recent swearing-in ceremonies, and Sydney Fields, Lancaster County marketing specialist, described the events honoring the clerk, council members and the county sheriff.
"I am the newly elected Clerk of Court. I was sworn in this morning, January 2nd," Mike Watkins said, adding that he previously worked as a court stenographer for 22 years in South Carolina and in Lancaster County. Watkins said he spoke with the retiring clerk, identified in the recording as Jeff Hammond, who he credited with laying a strong foundation for the office. "He has laid a great foundation with the best clerk's office in the state of South Carolina. I look forward to run the office with the same integrity and professionalism that Hammond has," Watkins said.
Fields closed the segment by congratulating all newly sworn officials.
The podcast did not provide a complete list of all officials sworn in or further details about any oath ceremonies beyond the remarks summarized above.
