Summary
After interviewing three candidates, the Davenport board unanimously appointed Jake Ward to temporarily fill the vacant Director Daniel Gosa seat; the appointment lasts until a successor is elected at the Nov. 4, 2025, regular election.
The Davenport Community School District Board of Directors voted unanimously to appoint Jake Ward to fill the board vacancy created by the resignation of Director Daniel Gosa.
Ward was one of four applicants the board interviewed at the Jan. meeting; the district published the vacancy and accepted letters of interest through Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025. Candidates interviewed at the meeting were Jake Ward, Lori Yanke, Andrew Kaufman and Jeremy Franks (Franks did not appear). Ward told the board he grew up in Davenport and said he wanted to give back to the district where his children attend.
Director Poston moved to nominate Ward; Director Hayes seconded the nomination. The board then proceeded to a roll call vote. The recorded votes in favor were Director Barnes, Director Beck, Director Hayes, Director Poston, Director Potts and President Klein Jerome; the motion carried unanimously.
Board materials provided to candidates and the board state that the appointee will be sworn in no later than Feb. 5 and will serve until a successor is elected and qualified at the next regular school election on Nov. 4, 2025. The person elected in November would serve the remainder of Director Gosa’s unexpired term through Nov. 2027. The board did not record additional conditions or follow-up assignments tied to the appointment at the meeting.
Director Beck and other board members publicly thanked all applicants for their interest and encouraged those not selected to remain engaged in other district volunteer opportunities.
Following the vote, board staff indicated the district will schedule the oath of office and administrative steps to seat Ward.
