Development director: state comments on housing element, new analyst hired, Parkwood pickleball courts nearing opening

HUGHSON, Calif. — At its Jan. 27 meeting, the Hughson City development director reported several departmental updates: the city has received comments from the state on its housing element and will work to finalize the plan; a new management analyst has been hired to assist public works, utilities and community development; painted pickleball courts at Parkwood will be submitted for council acceptance after corrective work; and a shopping center project remains paused while environmental work continues.

Regarding recreation, the director said pickleball courts at Parkwood have been painted and staff will bring an item to council to accept the park and open the courts to the public once requested corrections to the paint job are completed. When asked at the meeting whether the paint work would be corrected, the director said staff is “working on getting it corrected” as part of the acceptance process.

A separate commercial development — described in the meeting as a shopping center project — remains at a standstill because required environmental work has not been completed. The director said environmental work must be finished before the city can proceed with further approvals for that project.
