Municipal Electric department seeks $525,000 for island line reconstructions and $100,000 for armory ceiling repairs

The Wolfeboro Municipal Electric Department asked the Board of Selectmen on Jan. 15 to support two warrant articles: $525,000 to reconstruct the overhead distribution system on Melody and Kenniston Islands and $100,000 to repair and finish the armory interior ceiling in the municipal electric garage. The Board recommended both articles 5–0.
Melody and Kenniston islands supply power to roughly 40 customers. The project presentation said the work will replace aging poles, 15 kV conductors, transformers and associated equipment, and will involve barging equipment to the islands and drilling into ledge where necessary. Jeremy Mitchell and Director Barry Muccio said crews will replace about 16 poles on each island, 1,800 feet of conductor on Melody, and install dual‑voltage transformers to accommodate future upgrades.
"These projects will be funded from the existing electric department's unrestricted fund balance. So there will be no loan taken; there will be no bonds taken on this," Barry Muccio said, and presenters emphasized there is no tax rate impact because the enterprise fund covers costs.
On the armory ceiling, Muccio described deteriorated Tyvek wrap and dislodged insulation in the building's open cathedral roof. The proposed fix is interior metal sheathing and support framing to create a code‑compliant, finished ceiling; funding will come from the electric enterprise fund and not affect taxes.
The Board of Selectmen recommended both appropriations by unanimous vote and asked residents to contact Barry Muccio for technical questions about scope and schedule.
