The Green Bay Area Public School District Board of Education amended proposed policy 341.31 on human growth and development instruction to remove language allowing the superintendent to approve ad hoc committee appointments on the board’s behalf and replaced it with a requirement that membership be subject to board confirmation.
Board member Andrew (Becker) moved the amendment, which passed unanimously after discussion about committee membership and the superintendent’s role. Board members then approved the broader set of policy revisions in the 304100 series “as amended.”
During discussion board members and staff clarified committee roles. At one point the board clarified terminology: a prior reference to “chairperson” in committee procedures was adjusted to the board’s preferred title of “president.” The amendment was described in the meeting as intended to ensure board oversight of ad hoc committee composition.
The board’s action requires staff to implement the confirmation process when convening future iterations of the ad hoc committee and to notify the board when a new iteration is being convened.
