The Green Bay Area Public School District Board of Education approved the consent agenda and a series of contract, facilities and policy items during its January 2025 regular meeting and recorded roll-call votes on several motions, including a contested open-enrollment space designation vote.
The board voted unanimously to approve the consent agenda and to hire Ashley Flowers as principal at Washington Middle School. The board also approved issuance of contracts under Wisconsin Statute Section 118.24 for the 2025–26 school year and awarded a $675,898 bid to Herkman Mechanical Industries Inc. for a chiller replacement at Lombardi Middle School. The open-enrollment space designation for 2025–26 passed on a 5–2 vote. Board members voting in favor were McCoy, Liarley, Mills, Gerlach and Lee; Becker and Crossen voted no. Becker spoke at length before the vote explaining his no vote as a policy position opposing restrictions on special education open enrollment. Crossen joined Becker in urging the district to find ways to accept more students with special needs.
The board also adopted an amendment to the proposed human growth and development instruction policy (new policy 341.31) to require that membership on the ad hoc committee be subject to confirmation by the board; the amendment passed unanimously, and the revised policy series was approved as amended.
A motion to adjourn into closed session under Wisconsin Statute 19.85(1)(c) to consider the superintendent’s performance evaluation passed on a recorded roll call; board members present voted aye and the meeting moved into closed session.
