Board approves support letter for fair board grant, signs repair contract, and certifies local trustee election

Muscatine County Board of Supervisors on Monday authorized the chair to sign a letter of support for the Muscatine County Fair Board’s grant application for a proposed event center and approved several routine administrative actions, including a contract for repairs at the treasurer’s office and the official canvas of a local trustee election.

The support letter will be used as one of five community letters the Fair Board is collecting to meet grant eligibility. Kelsey Myers, Muscatine County Fair manager, told the board the project’s fundraising had exceeded $1,100,000 and that the county’s backing would strengthen the Fair Board’s application. "We're now over $1,100,000, we now qualify for some grants," Myers said. When asked whether the county letter would be a commitment of funds or simply project support, Myers replied, "Yes. That's correct," indicating the letter is intended as support for the grant application.
