Brookfield approves Edwin Hancock engineering agreements for Public Works parking lot upgrades and Maple Avenue design

BROOKFIELD, Ill. — At its Jan. 27 meeting the Village of Brookfield board approved two resolutions to hire Edwin Hancock Engineering Company for municipal design work: one for Public Works Department parking lot improvements and one to complete phase 1 and phase 2 engineering for the Maple Avenue resurfacing project.
The parking-lot agreement was brought as a resolution and approved on a roll-call vote after a motion by Trustee Cote and second by Trustee Kaluznick.
The Maple Avenue resolution prompted more discussion. A village staff member identified in the transcript as Dan explained the village applied in 2024 for six different projects through regional programs and is pursuing contingency funding that could produce an 80% federal match. Dan said Maple Avenue was selected for pursuit because the street lies within the village's lead-service area and the lead-service replacements there are complete. "With the lead services being done, now there's a lot of patching in the street," Dan said, and that condition pushed the timeline forward. Dan told the board the contingency funding could get the project on a letting for November or January and that the village share would be substantially lower if the contingency funding is obtained.
Trustee Nyermatsu (motion) and Trustee Gaohulli (second) moved the Maple Avenue engineering agreement; the board voted unanimously in favor. During discussion the board and staff emphasized utility coordination: village staff said they will contact utilities to confirm any planned work so the design can avoid redundant construction.
