Residents report wheelchair access problems at Lake Mitchell pavilion; county plans sidewalk and accessibility upgrades at parks

“My husband's in a power chair, and he's gotten stuck twice in there,” the resident, identified as Jennifer, said. She asked the county to “pack those rocks down in some way or try to fix that where it is handicap accessible.”
County parks staff said they already planned to create a handicap parking space and to install a sidewalk to provide safer access to the pavilion. A county parks official said, “This is gonna build we're gonna build a sidewalk,” and confirmed the plan would improve access at Lake Mitchell.
The resident also asked about accessible cabins at Manuka Park. Parks staff confirmed the county is adding new cabins at Manuka and that “we're planning on having some more cabins up there, and we're gonna get some that's handicap accessible.”
No formal vote was taken; the improvements and park-hour changes were presented as items to be considered at the commission's next meeting and in departmental budget amendments noted in the meeting packet.
