Commissioners and staff outlined how Lynn Water can support Lynn City snow removal operations when department vehicles and personnel are available.
Coco (councilor) asked about the process for providing Lynn Water trucks and staffing to city snow operations. A staff member said that the department posts a seasonal sign-up and forwards it to unions; employees who volunteer sign the posting and then may be called for individual storms. When vehicles are available and staff are not needed for water or sewer emergency work, the department can provide trucks, backhoes and operators to help move snow, particularly for large events.
Staff emphasized that the department's priority is water and sewer operations, so assistance is offered only when those needs are met. In prior storms, staff said crews used backhoes and dump trucks to move snow piles; individual employees decide whether to volunteer for a specific storm or detail and may take leave time if needed. The posting is made at the start of the winter season and employees sign up if interested.
No votes were taken; commissioners thanked staff for the explanation and asked staff to resend the seasonal posting if more volunteers are needed.
