Staff updated the commission on field screening and dye-testing work for the Kings Beach area and said the semi-annual progress report to EPA and the state Department of Environmental Protection is due at the end of the month.
A project lead said crews performed dye testing and field screening in December and continue efforts to complete final cleaning of roughly 3.5 miles ahead of beach season. Staff are coordinating with police for traffic details required to move equipment safely and said they will renew plans for updated screening, sampling and diagnostic chemistry in the first half of the year.
The semi-annual progress report will document the latter half of 2020 work as part of permitting and compliance with EPA/DEP requirements; staff said they are also planning further canvassing and lateral checks where dye tests yielded inconclusive results. They noted some properties have been inaccessible or declined access, but those refusals were relatively few compared with the canvassing approach, which staff said is more effective than waiting for appointments.
No formal decisions were taken; staff said they will proceed with sampling and retesting plans and seek to complete the remaining field work.
