Pampa ESU reports roughly 475 volunteer hours for 2024; unit reaches full roster

Troy presented the Emergency Services Unit (ESU) annual report to the Pampa City Commission on Jan. 27, 2025, reporting volunteer recruitment, activities and training plans for 2024.
Troy said ESU recruited five new members last year, bringing the unit to a full complement of 12 volunteers. He reported that ESU logged approximately 475 hours of service in 2024 supporting funeral escorts, parade and park event traffic control, structure-fire responses, vehicle-collision management and multi-agency evacuation efforts during the Smokehouse Creek fire in early March.
The presentation noted ESU leadership attended a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) academy in Amarillo and plans to pursue certification as CERT trainers. Troy also described ESU members' roles as storm spotters during severe-weather events and said the unit remains in early development for expanded functions such as search-and-rescue technical tasks.
"As much as we love to see those hourly numbers lower year after year, we're thankful for the opportunity to continue our community and first responder in their times of need," Troy said. He credited Director Jim Hart and Assistant Director Liz Wood with the unit’s efforts and asked for continued community support.
